Product Description

The evolution of power leaps forward with Minn Kota's newly re-engineered PowerDrive V2 Series of trolling motors. The most tried and trusted electric steer motor is now enhanced with intuitive, ergonomically-designed features that deliver more performance than ever. The PowerDrive V2 series also offers a redesigned foot pedal, new deploy-assist lever, and digital electronics enhancements.

Key Features of the PowerDrive V2 Series:

Minn Kota's Digital Maximizer technology supports up to five times longer run time on a single charge.
  • Deploy Assist Lever: Features a new deploy-assist lever that puts you in motion and in pursuit of fish quickly and easily. Simply depress the lever to deploy the motor and you’re ready to go. When it’s time to move, it stows easily and securely--ready for action again as soon as you are.
  • Ergonomic Foot Pedal: Offers precise speed adjustment, right/left steering, and both momentary and constant On/Off. Features the industry’s highest IP68 waterproof rating and 18' cord. Optional wireless foot pedal available.
  • AutoPilot: Spend less time steering your boat and more time catching fish. Simply put, AutoPilot keeps your pursuit of trophy fish headed in the right direction.
  • CoPilot Compatible: The wireless CoPilot remote control accessory (available separately) lets you control speed and steering from anywhere on the boat. With CoPilot you get every fish-fighting advantage and a clean, uncluttered deck while eliminating the fatigue of being "locked" to the foot pedal.
  • Digital Maximizer: Up to five times longer run time on a single charge. Conventional speed coil technology wastes energy by delivering a constant, steady flow of power to the motor--regardless of the speed setting--resulting in wasted energy. Pioneered in 1985, Minn Kota’s innovative Maximizer technology delivers the precise amount of power needed at any setting, along with variable speed control. Now, the advanced, digital microprocessing optimizes draw to extend battery life and reduce damaging heat. Get up to five times longer run time on a single charge.
  • Indestructible Composite Shaft: The standard of the industry since 1991! Pound for pound, the ultra high-yield composite material has been tested to be three times the strength of steel. Virtually indestructible, it flexes on impact and then returns to its original position. Unlike steel, will not kink, break, rust, or corrode.
  • Cool, Quiet Power: Extra-large windings and commutators are used to dissipate heat, resulting in cooler operation, extended battery power and longer motor life. A unique bearing system produces low rpms/high torque to cut down on fish-spooking noise.

Manufacturer's Warranty
All PowerDrive V2 bow-mount trolling motors feature Minn Kota's two-year warranty.

About Minn Kota
Minn Kota is the oldest manufacturer of electric fishing motors in the world with nearly 70 years of hard-earned experience in the lab and on the water. Throughout their history, Minn Kota has led the way in product innovation and cutting-edge technology. The Minn Kota electric trolling motor began its life in 1934 in Fargo, North Dakota. Mr. O. G. Schmidt, inventor of the trolling motor, was known to be a man of many diverse ideas. Prior to the trolling motor, Mr. Schmidt invented, produced and sold a copper soldering torch from his home in Wheatland, North Dakota. Due to its success, manufacturing operations were then moved to Fargo. Because of its proximity to the MINNesota-North DaKOTA border, Mr. Schmidt named the business The Minn Kota Manufacturing Company.

Just what I wanted

Review Date: May 3, 2009
Reviewer: Fred L. Ordelheide, East Texas
Perfect on front of my 21 ft Lowe pontoon. Plenty long. Easy to install with hardware provided. Powerful enough for a pontoon. Foot control works great and was not sensitive to me, as another reviewer described. That is a personal matter, but I found it just right.

Takes up little room and I installed it at a bit of an angle so it stores on deck to one side for walking room, then centers when put in the water.

I made my own cord and clamped it so I can pull it up with that. My old one had a cord and this does not. I was used to the cord and find it handy so added that myself.

Good price, arrived on time, undamaged and works as advertised.
Wow sweet motor!

This is my third minnkota i had earlier autopilot wireless model, riptide, now this one in 48inch shaft. The good its beautiful black color, great aluminum build quality. How could MotorGuide come close to this motor they cant! I was looking for lowest priced decent motor. There are other types with different mounts but this unit is best. No clumsey wiring to foot control its all electronic baby with electric steering. Everyone says get 24v um why 12volt is simple offers great power to move 17 foot crestliner if i need longer trolling time add two batterys + to + neg to neg. I plan on installing 40amp inline circuit breaker or fuse close to positive side battery. The advantage of electric motors for trolling you can get the speed just right for pop gear worm, walleye fishing pulling bottom bouncers. I have a kicker motor but tell you what this unit gets used its more enviormently friendly must have for nice boat. Most important option on my rig! Amazon is fantastic super quick shipping like 2 days ground LOL. Autopilot feature on other motors is nice but not totally needed you just do more imputing on controls. Mounting read the directions look at sheet supplied. You will need a helper to hold unit where you want it in down position. Under two plastic side plates are where the bolts go. The motor must be far enough out from boat to lower and raise unit. Dont go to far out just enough. Try and center motor but off angle to right is preffered not straight ahead. They do offer a quick release bracket it will raise motor couple inches there nice to have for removing motor for winter but not required. Perfect score motor i see no way of improving its looks or function. Shafts for bow are toss up a super deep v alum boat like starcraft 19 id go 55inch shaft or lund tyee, fisherman. My crestliner sits little lower in water and 48 if fine!
great

I used this trolling motor to move an 18' pontoon boat. It does an excellent job for me. I've used it in high winds, and it performs well. I highly recommend it.
Excellent!

I have been out a few times with this trolling motor and it has performed excellent! I love the momentary feature when doing a controlled drift and it has plenty of power for my 16 ft boat. I am waiting to get the Co-Pilot from Minn Kota which was offered as a rebate for free.

Top of the line trolling motor

Review Date: May 22, 2009
Reviewer: ~Z~,
I purchased the Minn Kota Powerdrive V2 Bow-Mount Trolling Motor with Foot Control(70-lb Thrust, 54" Shaft) to use on our 21 foot Bass boat. It has electric speed control, variable speeds, powerdrive mount and easy to mount on your bow. The foot pedal gives you infinite and accurate adjustability of your speed control and features temporary and continuous settings. It also allows more control in the turning capability. Waterproof and ergonomic design of the foot pedal allows less fatigue after a full day of fishing on the water. Comes with an 18-ft cord so you can move the foot pedal and allow you to control the motor from anywhere in your boat, front or back. The shaft is stronger than steel. It flexes on impact and won't break, kink or corrode and it is guaranteed for life.

With the "deploy-assist" lever, you just set on the lever to deploy the motor and you're ready to go and stows away easily for when it is time to move on.

Runs cool and quiet so you won't scare all the fish away!

The motor is backed up with Minn Kota's three-year warranty.

After extensive online research, Amazon does offer the best competitive price for the Minn Kota Powerdrive V2, and shipping was free.

Great motor

Review Date: November 21, 2007
Reviewer: Kenneth R. Schaefer, Phoenix, Az USA
This motor is a bit pricey but probably worth it. It is reasonable easy to install. The wiring and controls are well thought out. It preforms well. The one unexpected cost that I did not forsee was the need of a new battery charging system. I went from a 24 volt system which used a 2 bank charger to this new 48 volt system which requires a 4 bank charger.
Poor reliability, poor service and poor value

Review Date: June 10, 2009
Reviewer: Johnj52, Newon NJ
Do yourself a favor and buy an outboard motor. This unit has been nothing but trouble. The Main board has "burned" three times in three years and had to be replaced. The first two times it was covered by the waranty, now the third time it costs $735 dollars since Minn Kota changed the throtle design and you now need to install a conversion kit. Minn Kota is not what it used to be and I'm very disappointed in this product. To me, it appears they have a design flaw and are attempting to fix it by a redesign and are charging their customers way too much. I dont understand why they cannot repair a product that cost nearly 3K for a reasonale price. I expected many years of trouble free service, however, I've experienced nothing but grief due to the yearly repairs and very very expensive repairs. Again, very poor reliability, I average about 100 hours of use before the the main board burns and is destroyed.

Review Date: June 13, 2010
Reviewer: J. Phillips, ellenboro NC.
these motors are poorly thought out, they draw power from the battery even when they are not turned on and not in use. I fully charged a new battery and left it hooked up to the motor by the next day when i was ready to go fishing the battery was dead even though the motor was turned off, i have since read a lot of reveiws and everyone has the same problem with these motors. Motor guide use to make a good product and i have owned several but this one is a no no. buy a MK and avoid this motor.

Motorguide VariMax Fresh Water hand controlled trolling motor

Review Date: May 25, 2010
Reviewer: Gary Price, Central Illinois
I have always used MIN KOTA trolling motors, both hand and foot controlled models. I bought this Motorguide for two reasons. 1. This model is a variable speed. That feature conserves the battery(like maximizer). MIN KOTA sells a Maximizer, but at a much higher price. 2. Motorguide motors are generally easier on the pocketbook, and trolling motors are getting really expensive. I have not used it all that much as of this date, but it seems to work well with plenty of power. It takes some getting used to the push/pull for forward and reverse, but I like the idea, in that, the boat can be going one direction, at a given speed, and with just a push or pull of the handle, going in the opposite direction at the same speed. The only thing that does not work perfectly, is the lock for the length of the handle. It can come loose at just the most inappropriate times. I haven't taken the time yet to see if that can be remedied permanently. Not a biggie, just irritating. The tilt mechanism is different from MIN KOTA, heavier duty, but takes more effort to move. Oil helps that. The depth stop is also different. I like the way it works. So far, I am happy with the purchase.
Good but not perfect

Review Date: July 23, 2010
Reviewer: D. Aguiar, NE
I've been running this motor for a 1/2 season now after trading in my MK riptide 40.
First the good.-Price was good and less than the MK version with the battery chopper circuit.- Motor runs very quiet and with lass vibration than any of my MKs. I think it's the 3 blade prop and heavier shaft but am not sure.- The 3 blade prop seems better than the MK 2 blade. Really cuts through weeds!-Battery gage is a real NICE feature- Does sip power as compared to most.

No the Ugly.- The extend able handle is a bit flimsy. It's easy to pull out of the head ( but also easy to put back in.) As the other poster suggested, I may just fix it permanently with some glue. - The twist nut at the bracket does not allow for easy stearing tension adjustment. I can't get mine tight enough. - The position lock on the frame uses a spring loaded tapered pin. I think it's designed to slip if you hit somethign hard but It does slip out of position if I hit the throttle hard.

Overall, I'm happy. Smoother and has more features than my old MK for reasonable $. A little work on the mounting system & adjustments would make this a perfect motor.

I bought this motor to push a 17 foot canoe. I have not been able to get to the #5 speed for very long as it is to fast for the canoe for stability. I have never been able to run down a battery in a weekend. I use a 31 amp hour gel cell. It exceeds all my excpectaions.

I wanted to the ability to bass fish off my boat, so I purchased this motor a week ago along with a Seasense 4-Way Adjustable Trolling Motor Bracket and mounted both the back of my 15' Seadoo Sportster (Jet Boat). I have been fishing twice already, and love this motor. I am typically using the lowest speed and it pushes and pulls my 1,600 LB+ boat around the lake with no issue. The motor looks great, and the telescopic handle is an awesome and very convenient feature. I highly recommend this motor if you are looking for an inexpensive transom mount.

Got my order in three days. Put it on my square back canoe and it moves at nice jogging pace on the highest speed setting. Sure the 50 would be nice, but for the money the 30 is just fine.
GREAT FOR MY RAFT

I own a Marine 400 (11 foot raft) and attached this motor to my boat and it took off. Just what I needed for the ponds and small rivers I fish. But what I was really impressed by was the prop. One pond I go to the shallows around the shoreline is covered with lily pads and I thought that I had to paddle past that in order to get to open water. But another fisherman who had another raft w/Endura 45 connected said, "You don't have to do that your motor blade is made to go right through that stuff." I dropped the motor and yep, it cut right through the pads. I'd say at full speed (#5) it gets close to 5mph. perfect for my needs. And the shipping by the seller was awesome to...I ordered it on a Friday and it arrived the next day and I requested standard shipping. I wish everything that I ordered from other companies came that fast.

Reviewer: James J. Damato,
I found the unit easy to use, stable, and sufficiently powerful to propell our 16 ft cannoe at a reasonable speed. I am very satisfied with this product. However, they do recommend the installation of a 30 amp breaker on the postive pole, but if you avoid overloading the motor, this breaker may not be needed.
